My amateur photography class | Results

Well I finally took a photography class to learn what all those darn buttons and menus where on my new Nikon D80 SLR camera.  It feels so nice to actually understand my complicated camera....but now I need to learn more about shooting techniques--my next class and mission!  Here are some of the photos I took around the mission district in San Francisco where my class was....it's amazing what you find around the city!

Cameron's garden necklace

I just finished this piece this weekend and this one was tough. Problem with the 3mm turquoise crystals, these babies can crack easily.  I don't know how many I cracked making this piece but it was totally frustrating because if I cracked one the piece that it was cracked on had to be redone....ugh!  But I think it was worth it.

Kai Nalu Necklace to be a feature in Bead and Button Magazine

  • Post a comment

Hello all!

It has been quite a while since I have posted to my blog, my apologies.  I wanted to let you all know that one of my necklaces, 'Kai Nalu' will have a tutorial article in the April 2009 special crystal issue of Bead and Button Magazine.  You may pre-order a copy here:  http://www.beadandcraftbooks.com/bb9.html.  The article will be the full tutorial on how to create my or should I say Candice's Kai Nalu necklace.  If you are an avid beader I know you will enjoy the finished piece.  Kudos to Bead and Button magazine, they did a fantastic job on the photo of the necklace (...soon to be posted).

Now for a little thing I call 'spread the word'... I am a lover of the ocean as most of us are... it is the one thing that inspired me to create 'Kai Nalu'.  But, our oceans are in peril we must do everything we can in order to save their creatures and wonderous beauty, for the world and our childrens children.  Below is a wonderful yet sometimes sad presentation from ted.org (did I mention I love ted.org) by Sylvia Earle, please take time out of your day and view the video it will provide you with much needed information and as always spread the word we all want our childrens children to see a wonderful sea of blue and be inspired in their art creations whatever medium it may be in!

Virunga National Park Crisis

Here is a presentation I created to inform anyone who may not know about the crisis in the Congo at the Virunga National Park.  Caught up in the fighting and destruction of the park are less than 200 of the last endangered Mountain gorillas.  Only 700 of these beautiful animals exist.  If nothing is done, these beautiful animals will become extinct.  At the moment all of the park rangers have fled the headquarters when is was taken over by rebels in October.  Please view my presentation and visit www.gorilla.cd for daily updates and more information.  You can also read a fantastic article on National Geographics website here: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/07/virunga/jenkins-text.

More Inspiration from the City of San Francisco

I took half a day PTO last Friday and spent my day at the De Young Museum in San Francisco to see Chihuly's glass exhibition.  It was beautiful what inspiration you receive after viewing his glass and setup.  There were also some other wonderful pieces around the museum that just takes your breath away. Enjoy! Of course my photos don't do the pieces justice as usual.

San Francisco, what a wonderful place to work.  During lunch several colleagues and I drove over to crissy field and watch the ships sail under the Golden Gate Bridge for the 'Festival of Sail' www.festivalofsail.org this weekend. Below are some wonderful photos from our lunch break.  We are so lucky to work in a beautiful city full of fun and excitement!
